Sea Ranch Affordable Housing

The Sea Ranch Affordable Housing element of the California Coastal Plan for The Sea Ranch was conceived as a response to the recognized future need for affordable housing for future employees of an expanded Sea Ranch Lodge and Village. The initial fifteen units were designed by noted architect William Turnbull, one of the "founding architects" of The Sea Ranch along with Charles Moore, Donlyn Lyndon, and Richard Whitaker, as MLTW and Landscape Architect Lawrence Halprin. The element as a whole, in addition to particular designs received numerous architectural awards.

In 1993, Sea Ranch Village, Inc., in partnership with Burbank Housing, a not-for-profit developer of affordable housing in California, formed a partnership to build the additional thirty units, all part of Turnbull's original plan and design, to complete this element. Since completion, the affordable housing has been owned and operated by Burbank housing. The individual housing units are one, two, and three bedroom homes on separate parcels, most of which enjoy ocean views, and are situated near The Sea Ranch Golf Links, one of golf's most beautiful challenges. Residents of the Affordable Housing units have the same use of The Sea Ranch recreational facilities, pools, tennis, trails, etc., as do members of The Sea Ranch Association.
