California Golf: The Ultimate Guide, 10 of the most picturesque courses, lists The Sea Ranch Golf Links with Pebble Beach, Cypress Point, Spyglass Hill, and The Links at Spanish Bay, as one of the premiere golf courses in California. Golf Digest's "Places to Play" 1998 and top new California affordable course. California Golf, "Expert's Top 50" out of more than 1000 California golf courses.

Golf Today, a noted golf magazine wrote; "Robert Muir Graves has built more than 60 golf courses that have won the praise of the game's critics and the affection of players of every level of ability and more, he often wins competitions against his more visible and publicized competitors in the craft. ...... his Sea Ranch Golf Links is one of America's first modern day links layouts and the most natural creative solution for the untamed Sonoma shore."

American Express Magazine Travel and Leisure "Journey to the Garden of Youth" by Sports Illustratred golf writer John Garrity: "....on the sixth fairway of the Sea Ranch Golf Links, I saw the light. Don't ask me why the sixth fairway. I loved this unpretentious golf course from the moment I pulled into the parking lot and looked past the golf shop at a meadow riven with stands of twisted cypress and bishop pine. Braced by a freshening wind, I went off alone. As I walked up the second fairway, the sun broke out of the clouds. On the third hole, a woodland par three, I hit a six iron over the heads of deer grazing at the end of the tee box.

But it was on the sixth, a windswept par five dogleg around marsh and pond, that I felt that singular contentment golfers sometimes know. I've felt it at Seminole and Ballybunion. at Pebble Beach and Spanish Bay, on obscure courses in Scotland and Australia. Terrain and light suddenly conspire with ocean air to create an almost translucent atmosphere-what Michael Murphy calls that sense of an enormous pressure suffusing the world."......"And now as I lie in this baking soil and stare out the window at distant stars, my mind flees to hilltops in Ireland, dunes in Scotland, the ninth tee at Sea Ranch-to places where the wind wakens and braces and aging soul."

San Francisco Examiner, "Fairway to Heaven" by Larry Habegger: "The Robert Muir Graves design is a true links-style course. Like the natural courses of Scotland, where the game was born, these follow the natural sweep of sand dune and beach grass beside the sea, with a bracing exposure to the wind and narrow fairways with plenty of natural hazards.......The wind picked up on the back nine, but I really didn't notice. I was too busy enjoying the magnificent sea views and rolling terrain, hitting the occasional good shot among a flurry of bad ones. The course felt so much like the links courses I've played in Ireland that I hardly noticed that my score was again getting out of hand."

From the Rough "A Diamond in the Rough" by Jim Cameron: "Imagine a golf course on the scenic California coastline with wonderful views of the Pacific Ocean, golf holes that appear as if designed by Mother Nature, and a stiff challenge for any golfer willing to pay the green fees. This gem is located on the Northern California coast,.........and with a greens fee saving of almost $300.00. A place where there seems to be more grazing deer than strolling golfers. A true hidden jewel of golf. I write of The Sea Ranch Golf Links, just north of Jenner, on Highway One, and a million miles away from any course I have ever played.

Sea Ranch Golf Links is a Robert Muir Graves design in the Scottish tradition and is a centerpiece to the beautiful Sea Ranch community along the Sonoma coast........

An opportunity to swing a golf club with no pressures from time or the outside world....... I look forward to going back the Sea Ranch one day soon, and tee off with a stiff sea breeze in my face, and a chance to again feel the game of golf.

Pebble Beach may be the crown jewel of the west coast, but Sea Ranch is a true diamond in the rough."

The course is open for play all year, weather permitting. There is a grass driving range, putting green, and a chipping green with practice sand bunkers. Golf instruction available from the Pro Shop Staff. There are also rental clubs available as well as pull-carts and motorized carts.
